ANN ARBOR, MI – If nothing else, 20 years spent behind bars taught Cozie Welch that an education is the only thing given that cannot be taken away.

After being incarcerated from age 17 to 37, Welch recently became employed at the University of Michigan. He helps teach classes with Ashley Lucas, professor and director of the Prison Creative Arts Project, in addition to serving as managing editor of the Michigan Review of Prisoner Creative Writing.
